This is Love

leipziger strasseFor the opening/title sequence of Matthias Glasners film “This is Love”, rise|fx recreated Berlins “Leipziger Strasse”,  a landmark street leading to the Potsdamer Platz, as it looked in 1992 (when the Potsdamer Platz as it know today basically did not exist). It was planned to extend the original plate but due to extreme camera-jitter, it was decided to rebuild the entire shot in Nuke, using cards, geometry, projections, mattepaintings and a virtual camera. Even the car is cg.

The raw, uncorrected shot was rendered out as an image-sequence with mattes for every single part. My task then was to color correct all the elements,  grade the whole shot to make it look real and add the subtle, dreamlike look the director wanted.

This shot is covered in a fxguidetv special on the Foundry’s Youtube channel (starting at 4.36mins) youtube
